Ah, well it was a Talisker event But it definitely tempted me to explore it a bit more.

Re the ‘e’ – well, I think that’ll be an Irish thing! Sounds like we better not get into that particular debate, hah!

They started you off on the stronger (tasting) stuff then… Talisker is a punchy Islay.

A more mellow one (Monkey Shoulder or Highland Park are good and not too expensive) might get you into sipping it regularly (though that is not always a good thing).

PS there is no “e” in the proper stuff : )

You have summed up the initial hit of whiskey for the uninitiated very well. I’m a latecomer to the amber nectar (and a total convert) and well remember my first taste of Royal Lochnagar (12 YO i think). Amazing, all those deeply sweet/savoury flavours of dried fruit and heavy honey.

It sounds like a fab evening and has made me want to check out Salt whenever i can.
